Links

This is a collection of links I like to visit. They are separated into temari and math sections and for most of them I have a few notes about the site. This is not intended to be a comprehensive list for these topics, just a few of the sites I frequent in my travels on the web.

Temari Links

  • TemariKai.com

There is an incredible amount of information here about making temari that has been gathered together since about 1998. It is a good place to start if you are new to temari want to learn how to make them yourself but there is information for experienced stitchers as well.

  • JapaneseTemari.com

This is the site of Barb Suess, author of Japanese Temari: a Simple Spin on an Ancient Craft (release date spring 2007). She has a wonderful gallery of temari sorted by level of difficulty. There is also a section of the gallery for temari from around the world. And, there is a version of the gallery designed for dial up visitors. Additionally, Barb maintains an outstanding list of temari links (far more comprehensive than this one), both for English and non-English language sites.

  • TalkTemari on Yahoo groups

A chat group for temari artists. This group is open to people of all levels and is a great place to bring your questions and just share ideas about making temari.

  • TemariChallenge on Yahoo groups

This is another temari chat group made up of more experienced temari stitchers. It tends to focus on more advanced patterns and topics although beginner ideas are sometimes discussed. There is a companion website gallery showcasing completed temari: http://www.temarichallengegallery.org/index.html.

  • Thimble Japan

This is a Japanese language site showcasing thimblerings of many different designs. It has a nice gallery and a good visual tutorial. You can try a translation but I don't guarantee it will make alot of sense since Japanese does not respond well to automated translation. The links on the left side of the page are a table of contents: the first one is to a thimble ring gallery (with links on the left to further pages), the second one is a link to other embroiidery works and the third link is to a thimblering tutorial.

  • Hime Temari

This is a Japanese language site showcasing a particular type of wrapped design. It has a nice gallery and an excellant visual tutorial. I don't have a translation link for this one. Use the right hand link at the bottom of the page to get to the tutorial.

Math Links

  • MathWorld.com

This is a great site for mathematical information. It is comprehensive in scope and it is quite rare that I cannot find an entry for something I need. The entries are very detailed and can include quite a bit of upper level mathematics.

  • Virtual Polyhedra by George W. Hart

This site has just about every polyhedron you could ever imagine. Not all of the pictures are accesible without a browser add on but he gives information about that on the main page. It is a great source for math play and for temari ideas.
