Directions

  1. Wrap and mark a C10. This example used gold thread but it probably should be inconspicuous thread instead.
  2. Add support lines cutting off the corners of the pentagons. Red lines on diagram 1.
  3. Locate the N and S pole pentagons and add support lines. Do not extend these past the lines added in step 2. Blue on diagram 1.
  4. Locate the kite shape below a point of the N pole pentagon outlined by the support lines you added in step 2. It will be a pentagon and a triangle together. Add support line in this shape as shown in green on diagram 2.
  5. There are 5 kite shapes from the N pole and 5 kite shapes from the S pole nested together. Add support lines for all of them.
  6. Stitch a kiku in each of the 10 kite shapes with the outer points starting halfway along the lines and the inner points as close to the intersection as possible. Use 2 rows yellow and 1 row orange.
  7. Stitch a kiku in the two pentagons. Use 2 row yellow and 1 row orange.
  8. Wrap bands along the edges of the penatgons and kite shapes, interweaving as necessary. Use 5 rows of green with 1 row of turquoise on each side.

Notes

As I add this page to my online notebook in Sept 2006 I think that I could do a much better job with the directions now than when I wrote them in Feb 2005. I think I've learned a bit in the past year or so. I'll have to work this one again and try to do a better job with the directions. On other notes: I love the texture of the linen thread. The silk floss was a bit of a pain...too thin, other brands seem to be thicker.
