Directions
- Wrap mari in a color to match one of the design threads. Mark a C10 with inconspicuous thread.
- Stitch a rectangle with first design thread. (Red on sample temari and diagram.) Use enough rows to fill in the tip of the pentagon.
- Stitch a rectangle with the second design color on each side of the one in step 2. The short sides of these rectangles will interlock with the long sides of the rectangle in step 2. (Yellow on sample temari and on diagram)
- Stitch the other rectangle to match step 2 on the opposite side of the ball interlocking the sides with the step 3 rectangles.
- Stitch the last two rectangles in the third design color interlocking with the previous rectangles.(Grey on sample, orange on diagram)
- Stitch the triangles on top of the rectangle intersections. See diagram for placement (blue lines). The 4th design color is used around the intersectons where three rectangles meet (blue on sample, should match mari color). For the intersections that have two rectangle sides, use the third rectangle color for the triangle on top. These triangles should have enough rows to meet at the 10-way intersections.
Notes
I did not realize that the mari color needed to match the design thread when I worked out how to do this one. It really is a neat effect in the book. I should redo it sometime with the right color arrangement. This one has a neat feel in the hand because of the mohair and linen threads.
