Directions

  1. Mark a C8.
  2. Stitch one round on the smaller petals at each 8-way intersection. Inner points are close to the intersection, outer points are at the halfway point on the line towards the 6-way intersections. (red on diagram)
  3. Stitch one round on the longer petals at each 8-way intersection. Inner points are close to the intersection, outer points are just past the square edge at the 4-way intersections. These petal will overlap. (blue on diagram)
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each of the 6 squares on the C8.
  5. Repeat step 4 for the additional rounds. This temari used 3 rows light color, 2 rows dark color, an extra row of dark on the short petals
  6. Finish with a row of gold.
  7. Fill negative space with gold pine needle stitches. Note that only three of the lines will go all the way across, the others stop at the center. Do those first and the all the way across ones will cover any messiness.

Notes

I did a lighter coverage in the negative space than the original and I added a dark color accent in the center of each flower by weaving two rows over and under the marking threads. Sorry these photos are not the same quality as the others...the originals were lost and I had small res copies only.
