Directions

  1. Mark C10 and add support lines (dotted on diagram)
  2. Stitch one row on the red stars and diamonds. (red and blue on the diagram)
  3. Stitch one row on the white triangles. Green on diagram, note closeup for detail of stitch at the 10-way intersection. The stitches go under the support line rather than around it.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 using uwagake kagari at the 6-way intersections and placing the stitches so there is no space between the red and white peaks. Do as many rows as there is space for, leaving room for one last row of d gold.
  5. Do one row of gold on the red and white paths.
  6. Add the white stars at the 10-way intersections. The stitches for the outer points go over the red and white stitches in the previous layer. The inner stitches are shitagke kagari and are on the division lines that the white triangles went under. Do rows until the outer points are within one row of meeting. (Purple on last diagram.)
  7. Add a row of blue around the stars. I worked around the ball crossing over at the points to get a cleaner point.

Notes

This was done as a stitch along on talktemari so there is a detailed write-up with in progress pictures on temarikai.com. Uses lots of thread, an entire skein of white and almost as much red. I left off the final gold lines on the stars. Matching mari wrap is not entirely necessary but it is forgiving for sloppy stitching at the flower centers. This is about the smallest size you should use for this one...book example was 31cm and that would allow one more row on the flowers. I only got three rows plus the metallic.
