Directions

  1. Wrap and mark a S12 placing pins at the obi line.
  2. Measure and mark each line 3/5 the distance from pole to obi. Be sure to measure from the pole to get a good straight line. Stitch this line with inconspicuous thread. (dotted line on diagram)
  3. Stitch zig zag paths on both sides of each division line crossing over at the obi, N and S poles and having stitches placed on the support line. See blue lines on diagram. Circles on diagram indicate the crossover points.
  4. Repeat step 3 with wider zig zags until the stitches meet in the middle of the division lines. Dark shaded red areas on diagram. Note that the lighter shaded red area will be filled in too because the stitching is on a sphere.
  5. Bind the bundles at the obi.
  6. Stitch long straight stitches from the where the stitches meet one one side over the pole to where they meet on the other in silver.

Notes

It is very important to keep the stitches oriented in the same way (right over left vs left over right) for a smoothness in the stitched area, otherwise you get significant gaps. When you take the stitches on the support line turn the ball so that you are taking the stitch perpendicular to the line.
