Japanese website about this style of temarihttp://ww2.enjoy.ne.jp/~matutake-913/himetemari.html
Simple 12, Wrapped crossing over, layered,

The gold mesh underlay is done first. Some people choose to do a gold wrapped mari but I really like the distinct gold lines. It is wrapped in two directions. Then the colored obi is done to hold the gold wraps in place. Lastly the colors of the design are wrapped in 2 sets each from three directions. The order and placement is very important is establishing the design. I messed up the placement from what I was intending placing the green wraps inside the white when I should have put them outside.
My first attempt at this style of temari- Hime. Lines of gold wrap under design could be a little closer together. Need to be very careful on the placement of each set of bands to make sure it is crossing the others correctly; it is almost impossible to fix when the next bands are added. Try a thinner thread for the design to get a smoother look and to try to get smaller bundles on the obi. Control the tension when wrapping carefully...I have a tendency to wrap tightly and I think this could benefit from a gentler hand. I will revisit this type of design again later and try again. I will probably wrap over this one at that point, but not until I am sure of how not to repeat my errors. :-) The website has moved locations on the internet at least once so I made a copy of the instructional pages for furture reference. Even though they are written in Japanese there are great pictures making it fairly easy to follow. The examples of this style are fabulous.
