Diagrams

line drawing showing the placement of the large and small tetrahedral triangles

Directions

  1. Wrap a mari in navy. Mark an 8-combination in gold.
  2. Using two strands of blue, stitch 8 small triangles. See green triangles on diagram. The starting points are at the halfway points as marked 1, 2, 3.
  3. Using two strands of green in the needle, stitch 8 large triangles. See orange triangle on diagram. The starting points are at the halfway points as marked A, B, C just inside the points of the small triangles.
  4. Repeat step 2 and 3, alternating green and blue rows, until the large triangles meet.
  5. Finish with one more row on the small triangles, keeping the green/blue pattern correct.
  6. Embellish the diamond area between the small triangles with a gold starburst. (blue on diagram).

Notes

I really like this pattern. The shapes created from the tetrahedral triangles are a bit surprising. I submitted this temari for my level 2 JTA certification.
