Division/Marking

C8, could be done on a S4w/obi but then you won't have the 6-way intersection peeking through on the unwrapped hexagon area

Diagrams

a diagram showing how the wraps cross the 8-way intersection
The red line shows four wraps of one color crossing over at the 8-way intersection.

Directions

Start wrapping on either side of the S4 lines. Do one color on N/S poles (total of 4 wraps, one on each side of the lines making the 'plus') then rotate to an 8-way intersection on the obi and do another color, rotate to the last 8-way intersection not done yet and do a third color. You will need to pack the threads tightly so the wraps of each color are side by side without gaps. Continue until colors almost meet, leaving a small section unwrapped and the 6-way intersection marking lines peeking through.

Notes

Translated by Millie at the Stitch In NY 2006. I started this one using my C8 cheat ball which was not marked evenly. This design needs an even division; there is no room for fudging it. Abandoned the ball when I realized how uneven the division is. I will wrap over it eventually and try again later. It probably needs a large ball and a fairly fine thread to get the look that is in the book. Heather Heroldt in AZ from TT will be giving it a go and I sent her pics of the work in progress.

Given To

No one...Since I won't be finishing the ball I will wrap over it or pitch it.
