Simple 16, uwagake
29cm circumference
S16w/obi
Used uwagake chidori worked upside down. For the first bands the top of the zig zag is about 2.5cm towards the N pole, the bottom of the zig-zag is at the obi. Work two rounds in burgundy, three rounds med yellow and 1 round lt yellow. Do uwagake at the bottom of the zig-zag and regular kagari at the top. Space the uwagake stitches about 2mm apart and squeeze the top stitches as close as possible. For the next row up the bottom of the zig-zag is at the top of the points just below, the top of the zig-zag is just a bit more than halfway up the space remaining on the division line. Repeat same rows. For the last round (closest to pole) the bottom of the zig-zag is at the top of the previous rounds and the top of the zig-zag is just a bit more than halfway along the division line distance that is left. Do two rows burgundy, two rows med yellow and 1 row lt yellow. Repeat on other hemisphere. Do blue-green straight stitches under the top of the zig-zag close to the pole, lazy daisy stitches (elongate the securing stitch) under the top if the zig-zag in the middle. Work burgundy starbursts in the obi negative space with lt yellow x's over the intersections.
This really should be done with a smaller thread or a larger mari to truly get a lacy effect from the uwagake stitching. Lazy daisy stitches are a pain but they really look good. Wish there was some other way to get the same effect. Would be very nice with more rounds or with the rounds not alternating maybe. Done as a practice for the NY Stitch In color challenge for Jean.
