line drawing showing the placement of the five point star elements
Diagram from 060508, red five point star is stitched first.

Directions

The stitching path is the same as 060508 but the order is a bit different.

  1. Mark the starting place on the N and S pole with pins as on #060508.
  2. Use one color and stitch the N and S pole five point stars.
  3. Pick a different color and stitch five point star B and the five point star opposite it.
  4. Continue for C, D, E, and F using a different color each time.
  5. Repeat colors in order until shapes fill in and almost touch.
  6. Finish with a round of gold on all five point stars keeping the stitching order the same.

Notes

I was not sure this design would hold up with multiple colors in this way. It did look rather chaotic until the last two rows and then it just popped. I think a high contrast background would improve the ball. I have some ideas for alternate finishing stitching that I will draw on the picture and store in my temari to do folder for later study.
