Directions

  1. Mark an S8 with gold.
  2. Work partial starburst stitches to create the wings of the dragonflies. Do the N pole first, then the S pole. The placement for the squares at the obi will work themselves out. Separate the Bravo and use two strands in the needle. See diagram 1 and 2 for placement, diagram 3 for stitch order. Note that diagram 3 shows only three stitches per wing...there are 6 on the sample.
  3. Add purple single row spindles for the bodies, see diagram 3 for placement. Use two strands in the needle.
  4. Add gold stitches at the 8-way intersections as shown with blue lines on diagrams 1 and 2.
  5. Add beads for the eyes at the end of the spindle stitch using gold thread.

Notes

This is a fairly simple pattern to stitch. Since the dragonflies are based on the triangle shape they could be easily adapted to other geometries such at tetrahedral triangles on a C6 or icosahedral triangles on a C10. The original design was done with three shades of a single color for the wings rather than a variegated thread. I did this one for Patty and will send it out later when I get a few more done for her.
