Directions

  1. Mark a C10.
  2. Stitch one cube, taking the stitches as close to the 6-way intersection as possible and taking the stitches on the short lines of the triangles at the 6-way intersections.
  3. Shift to a different 6-way intersection to begin stitching a second cube. Two of the vertices will coincide with two of the vertices of the first cube. Take the stitches around the stitches of the first cube being careful with your tension so as not to spread the edges apart.
  4. Continue to place cubes until you have all 5 on the ball. Each 6-way intersection will have two colors stitched one over the other.

Notes

This was done as a demo design for the Platonic Solids and Temari Design study. Interestingly, when all five cubes are placed on the ball you get a five pointed star on the pentagons of the C10. An enlarged version of these pentagrams is used to stitch #060508 and #060510 in my notebook. You can also stitch the lines of the five cubes by using triangles. These are the triangles used (slightly enlarged) for #060204 ,#060301 and #060303 in my notebook. I need to add compound polyhedra to my list of studies to do.
