Diagrams

Basic placement wrapped bands and colors. Note the crossovers at the 4-way intersections.
Directions
- Wrap a mari in peacock blue. Place pins for a C8 division but do not place marking lines. Alternately you can use a removable thread or the wrap thread.
- Keep your marking pins in as necessary to help you keep track of the wrapping order. Consistency of wrapping order is important.
- Use yellow to wrap one row on each side of the marking pins establishing the weaving pattern for the stars at the 6 and 8 way intersections and crossing over at the 4-way intersections. (See pattern investigation Stars Part 1 for weaving details.) You will end up with what looks like a double marking thread on the 6 and 8 way intersections and crossovers in both directions at the 4-way intersections. The order you wrap the lines is not important initially as long as you are consistent for the entire ball. The order I used is as follows:
- Wrap the short lines of the squares (orange on the first diagram). These end up being Simple 4 with obi lines.
- Wrap the diagonal lines of the squares (purple on the first diagram). These are all the lines that cross at 6-way intersections.
- Use the order established for the first row to continue wrapping on both sides of the lines. Use orange for the orange lines in the diagram and use purple for the purple lines in the diagram. You will end up with just purple at the 6-way intersections but purple and orange at the 8-way intersections. The 4-way intersections will have purple in one direction and orange in the other.
- Continue to wrap and weave for as many rows as you wish. I used 5 rows not including the initial yellow row.
- Wrap one row of yellow on all lines.
- Use purple to work a starburst on all 4 way intersections.
- Work three straight stitches with orange over the 6-way intersections in between the wrapped bands.
Notes
Here is another woven star design. There is a pattern investigation that gives the complete generalization for these stars of any size. I like to do them (but not with Bunka!). Although it is stitched differently, the structure of this design is similar to another one (#050202 but wrapping the bands instead of using a stitched path allows for a tighter intersection. I was trying to find an alternative to the mini spindle design I started and am still working on. I really like the orange on this color blue.
