Directions

  1. Wrap a mari in green. Place pins for a Simple 8 marking
  2. Wrap the gold underwrap. Each line is placed about an eighth of a inch apart about halfway up the side of the mari. Use two pair of pins on the obi as shown in the picture of the underwrap layer and diagram 1. The diagram only shows the first five wraps on each section, repeat the blue and red section in a mirror image to complete the underwrap.
  3. Wrap the light and dark green sections weaving at the poles to create the star shape (See pattern investigation Stars Part 1.) These wraps cross over at the obi; use keeper pins if needed. Continue wrapping until the intersection reaches the level of the gold underwrap.
  4. Wrap one round of dark green on the light green sections.
  5. Wrap one round of Gold Rush 18 on the dark green sections.
  6. Use the Gold Rush 18 to add straight stitches across the pole to separate the dark and light green sections.
  7. Wrap the obi with light green.
  8. Add gold X stitches across the obi at the bundled thread intersections.

Notes

I was inspired to do this one after looking at the 8-way intersections on #070303. I really like using the different textured thread and it was a nice break from the Bunka I've been using. I think this is the most successful St. Patrick's Day temari I have ever done. Maybe it will break the habit and I will not feel the need to make one next year.
