Support line structure-will need to be tacked at the intersections with the red circle if you add the lines with a five point star as suggested

Placement of hexagons and pentagons for design layer 1

5 pointed stars for layer 2
Directions
- Wrap a mari in yellow. Mark a C10 in metallic.
- Add support lines to split each 6-way intersection to 12, and place a pentagon at halfway from the 10-way intersections. These can be added by stitching 5 pointed stars at the 10-way intersections with the points at the 6-way intersections but some tacking will be necessary since the lines will not quite split the angles without a little nudging.
- Stitch one row of green on the outside of each hexagon. See red and blue hexagons on the second diagram.
- Stitch one row of green on the outside of each pentagon. See the green pentagon on the second diagram.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 with blue. This is layer 1 of the design as shown in the first diagram and the second picture above. You'll need to keep your stitching order consistent for the hexagons.
- Stitch a 5 point star at each 10-way intersection with blue. The points will be layered over each other as you stitch all 12. See the third diagram for the placement of the stitches on the original C10 4-way intersections. You will need to have a consistent stitching order for the rounds on these stars.
- Stitch a row on the five pointed stars with brown.
- Embellish the negative space as desired. I liked the simple look with just the marking lines.
Notes
This was actually going to be a slightly different design but I found that I did not have room on this size ball with #5 perle to do it. I'll try that idea again with a larger ball or smaller thread. I was going to do the layer one design and then surround the resulting hexagons with triangles similar to the design I did on #060105. In any case I am pleased with this result and will try it again. Perhaps I'll use a different color layout; maybe a high contrast between the two layers to highlight the tiny hexagons inside the star points. I like the way the first layer shows the truncated icosahedron Archimedean solid so I took a picture of it before finishing the design.
