Directions

  1. Wrap a mari in blue. Mark a C10 in metallic.
  2. Add support lines to split each 6-way intersection to 12, and a pentagon at halfway from the 10-way intersections. These can be added by stitching 5 pointed stars at the 10-way intersections with the points at the 6-way intersections but some tacking will be necessary since the lines will not quite split the angles without a little nudging.
  3. Stitch one row of green on the outside of each hexagon. See red and blue hexagons on the second diagram.
  4. Stitch one row of green on the outside of each pentagon. See the green pentagon on the second diagram.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with ecru. This is layer 1 of the design as shown in the first diagram. You'll need to keep your stitching order consistent for the hexagons.
  6. Work one row with gold around each of the small hexagons formed at the intersections of the pentagons and larger hexagons.
  7. Stitch a 5 point star at each 10-way intersection with a double strand of yellow. The points will be interlocked as you stitch all 12. See the third diagram for the placement of the stitches on the original C10 4-way intersections.
  8. Embellish the negative space as desired. In this case I added green starbursts to each section in between the gold lines.

Notes

This is the same design as the previous one: #070501. It was done for my color swap for Stitch In NY 2007. This was the first time in a long time that I used the DMC metallic. I found that it worked nicely to separate it into 2 plies and stitch with only one. It gave a nice size for the numerous marking lines. It separated easily just like stranding floss. I really liked the colors I had to work with on this one. I might have to replicate the color scheme on something for myself sometime. I hope that Karen likes it as much as I do.
