Directions
- Wrap a mari in cream.
- Use the green #5 perle to stitch random feather stitch stems around the ball. Use a fairly open spacing.
- Use the silk floss (6 strands, not stripped) to stitch randomly places lazy daisy flowers in the spaces around the stems. Some have 5 petals and some have 6. Do not attach the flowers to the stems.
- Use the linen thread to stitch very small single lazy daisy buds at the end of each feather stitch.
Notes
This is pretty much my first foray into free embroidery on temari. It was done as a favor for my online friend Barb Suess for an article she was writing for Creative Needle magazine. She gave me brief instructions about the design parameters and a color palette to choose from. I am more or less pleased with how this one came out. It did confirm for me that I don't really care to do free embroidery on temari. I really missed the structure of a division. I like the way the finished balls look, but it is definitely not my favorite technique.
