Division/Marking

Simple 6 with obi

Directions

  1. Wrap a mari and mark a Simple 6 with obi using two strands of copper thread.
  2. Wrap with lt pink crossing at obi for a width of about 1.75cm on each side of a marking line.
  3. Repeat step 2 for the other two marking lines.
  4. Use 4 to 6 strands of dk pink twisted in the needle to work straight stitches across the intersection of the wrapped areas at the N and S poles. See picture.
  5. Use 4 to 6 strands of yellow in the needle to work a small ring around the center of the lines just added. Be sure to take your stitches deep enough to catch the mari threads not just the design threads and be sure to not misalign the dk pink straight stitches.
  6. Wrap an obi with yellow.
  7. Use one strand of copper to work a zig zag over the obi.

Notes

This is the first time I've tried the threads that Heather sent for my wrapping experiments. (I still have not done those yet.) It is a little slippy but the shine is beautiful. It will work quite nicely for the experiments when I get around to them. This design is a simple one I saw on ebay and really liked. It doesn't quite get the floral look until you add the ring of stitches around the intersection of the straight stitches but then it just pops. It is really pretty in the shiny threads but does not photograph well because of the reflections. The original was done with simpler threads and had a bit more of a rustic look, also very pretty. This would be a nice design to use to teach the crossover technique for wrapping, and the technique of anchoring stitches through another layer. One of these days I will find a way to look up what the name on ebay (tsubaki) means and add that info here.
