Diagram 1: 16 faces marking from a C8

Directions

  1. Wrap mari and mark a C8 with a easily removable thread.
  2. Mark a 16 faces marking by adding hexagons around 4 of the 6-way intersections. These are placed as for a 4 center or tetrahedral marking. See diagram 1.
  3. Use two strands of yellow in the needle and stitch five pointed stars in each of the 12 pentagons. Place the stitches right in the corners of the pentagons.
  4. Use two strands of blue in the needle and stitch a row of blue on the stars from the previous step. Stitch the points uwagake or kiku style.
  5. Use the red Gold RUsh to place support lines in the hexagons so that they are split into 12 rather than 6.
  6. Using two strands on the needle and a sequence of blue, red, yellow, red stitch a spiral in each of the 4 hexagons.
  7. Remove all marking lines.

Notes

This is a sample 16 faces design to demonstrate that the pentagons are not quite regular. I really enjoy the tetrahedral geometry of this marking. When you do something distinctive in the hexagons it becomes quite obvious. If you were to do a similar design in each of the pentagons and hexagons it would not be so obvious. It might be fun to try a swirl on this marking.
