Division/Marking

C6 with support lines

Directions

  1. Wrap mari and mark a C6 with purple.
  2. Add support lines in a starburst pattern at each of four large triangles to make them 30-way intersections.
  3. Stitch 5 pointed stars in each of the four centers, rotating them so that the points do not match up.
  4. Add straight stitches across the interior of the star where the threads intersect.
  5. Add purple stitches around the outside of the star to extend the points into the other sections.

Notes

This is the ball I stitched for the Color Challenge Melee at the SW Stitch In 2008. It was quite interesting to get such a varied collection of colors and make them work out. In the end I think the key piece for me was to group the colors into what I thought were compatible colorways and add a strong color marking thread to tie it all together. I am pretty happy with the final result and will probably try my own little melee in the near future from my stash of perle cotton.
