Red lines are starbursts stitched over the last layer just in the small diamonds

Directions

  1. Wrap mari and mark a C10 with blue metallic.
  2. Add support lines to create 32 pole marking. (Dotted lines on diagram)
  3. Stitch one row inside each large diamond with yellow (the original four part diamond of the C10 marking). There are 30 of them.
  4. Using peach start near a 10-way intersection on a line inbetween the diamonds you just outlined. Take the thread across the center of the diamond and take a stitch at the next 10-way intersection. Continue to zig zag across the diamonds until you return to your starting place.
  5. Move to a new diamond and repeat the previous step until all of the diamonds have been crossed.
  6. Start a new set of zig zags just below where the last ones were and complete all diamonds.
  7. Continue to stitch the zig zag paths until all diamonds are filled with a starburst.
  8. Locate the small diamonds inside the larger ones. Fill these with a starburst in light purple with the stitches going between the peach stitches.
  9. Add navy blue straight stitches inbetween each of the yellow outlined diamonds to cover the stitches.

Notes

This is the ball I did at the SW Stitch In 2008 for Barb's shapes and string challenge. I liked the idea of layered starbursts but did not want to stitch oall of them so I devised the zig zag stitching path to accomplish stitching the larger ones faster. I think I can use this technique if I decide to do a starburst Times Square ball.
