S12 with equator

Directions

  1. Wrap mari and mark an S12 with yellow perle cotton.
  2. Use the varigated green to do all wraps. Start at one of the marking lines at the equator and do one wrap about 1/4 of the way fromt he N pole to the equator, one a little less than 1/2 way and a third one equally spaced as the first two. Repeat at the same marking line in the opposite direction.
  3. Skip over the next marking line and start your thread at the third one. Repeat step 2.
  4. Skip over the next marking line and start your thread at the 5th marking line and repeat step 2 again.
  5. Using the orange thread stitch one row of a kiku with the top stitches next to the N pole and the bottom stitches about 1/2 way between the pole and equator.
  6. Wrap onother green wrap just below all of the previous green lines.
  7. Work another row on the kiku.
  8. Repeat the last two steps until there is only room for one more kiku row.
  9. Work the last kiku row in brown. Add a brown starburst in the center of the kiku if desired.
  10. Wrap an obi band with brown flattening the green thread bundles as necessary.

Notes

I have liked this temari ever since I first saw it. I thought it would be a good choice to try the new variegated DMC perle. I thought the DMC was overpriced but couldn't resist the colors. Unfortunately the quality was not great and several times I had to work around slubs in the fiber. I probably won't use this fiber again even though the colors they make are wonderful. I would rather have a better quality thread.
