Diagrams

Diagram 1: Stitch triangles on four of the centers on the C6

Diagram 2: Hexagons are formed on the other 4 centers. Blue lines are added.

Directions

  1. Wrap mari and mark a C6 using an inconspicuous or easily removable thread.
  2. Stitch a triangle on four of the 6-way intersections as diagramed. Diagram 1 shows two of these triangles in red. This will create hexagons on the other 6-way intersections. One of the hexagons is shown highlighted in pink in diagram 2.
  3. Add support lines to the hexagons to split them into 12 sections. Shown in blue on diagram 2.
  4. Stitch a large rose garden in each of the four hexagons, ending with the last layer aligned with the hexagon sides. I did four different rose garden variations as follows:
    1. Stitch a small center with the brown very velvet, about 4 rows. All other layers start with one row of gold. Using the darkest color stitch a layer with 4 rows twice. Switch to the medium color and stitch 3 layers with 4 rows each. Switch to the lightest color and stitch 3 layers with 5 rows each. Stitch the last layer with 2 row of gold, two rows lt color and two rows gold. Finish one more layer with one row of gold.
    2. Stitch a brown center with the velvet fiber. Do 2 layers with about 5 rows each. All other layers start with one row of gold and have about 7 rows of Watercolors (separated into one strand). Finish with one row of gold ountside the last layer and one more row of gold on the opposite layer.
    3. Stitch a medium sized brown center, about 6 rows. All other layers are 6 rows each with stripes of the lt and dk colors. End with two rows of gold on the last layer and one more row of cold on the previous layer.
    4. Stitch a medium sized brown center, about 6 rows. All other layers have 2 rows lt, 2 rows med and 2 rows dk color. The last layers have gold as described in the previous variation.
  5. Remove any marking threads that are showing. Embellish negative space as desired. I left this one blank since it was a nice interesting thread wrap.

Notes

I did this one as a rose garden sampler and as an example of an Archimedean solid: the truncated tetrahedron. The sunflowers were fun and cheery to stitch. Everytime I do rose garden designs I find myself daydreaming about variations of them. They are so versatile. I've added these to the rose garden investigation.
