Diagrams

This diagram is a C10 centered on a 4 part diamond instead of the usual 10 part pentagon.

Directions

  1. Mark a C10 with gold.
  2. Stitch one row of brown on each of the 8 hexagons. (blue on diagram)
  3. Stitch one row of brown on each of the 6 diamonds surrounded by the hexagons. Notice how the diamonds are set at right angles to each other. (pink on diagram)
  4. Stitch one row with blue (two strands in needle) on the hexagons and pink (two strands in needle) on the diamonds.
  5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 two more times.
  6. Repeat steps 2 and 3 once.
  7. Stitch one row with pink (two strands in needle) on the hexagons and blue (two strands in needle) on the diamonds.
  8. Repeat steps 2 and 3 once.
  9. Stitch one row of gold on the hexagons and diamonds. Groom the threads to meet in the center of the diamonds if necessary.
  10. Remove any marking lines still visible in the center of the hexagons.
  11. Add brown straight stitches in a triangle configuration in the negative space.

Notes

This design is a result of examining the symmetry of a cube placed on the lines of a C10. Although the finished design appears to have the symmetry of a C8 design the orientation of the diamonds changes it. It is not possible to stitch it on a C8 without a messy process of adding support lines, essentially marking a C10 on top of the C8. The hexagons stitched are not regular and in fact become more irregular as the design progresses.
