Directions

  1. Wrap and mark a C6 with gold. Add support lines to split 4 centers into 18 sections.
  2. Stitch a spindle top kiku on one set of lines in each center. Inner points are at 1/4 the distance of the short line of the triangle, outer points are at 3/4.
  3. Stitch 2 rows of navy kiku herringbone on alternate lines.
  4. Stitch interwoven spindles and triangles to frame the flowers. Spindles start halfway between marking lines, triangles start inside the spindles at the marking line. Do 1 row white, two rows navy, 1 row white.
  5. Stitch one row flowers inside triangles. Inner points are inbetween marking lines near the centers, outer points are at the spindle points and triangle sides.

Notes

Another attempt after receiving directions from Ai about how to do the spindle top kiku. Much better result. I played around with lots of different ideas for the alternate 6-way intersections. This design has gone through quite a few different iterations. I decided to keep only the first (#090103) and the last (this one) in the notebook rather than separate entries for all of the ones inbetween that I ended up not keeping.

These spindle top kikus are pretty cool once you figure out how to stitch them. They really do need floss to come out well though. I will have to write up more detailed instructions about how to get them to come out nicely. It's probably a pattern investigation sort of thing. I'll have to stitch a few more so I can explain it clearly. One more thing on the to do list. :-)
