Directions

  1. Wrap mari and mark a C8 with red.
  2. Add support lines splitting each 8 part square into 32 sections.
  3. Use two strands of thread in the needle unless otherwise directed. Stitch squares with one row of yellow. Starting points are 1/2 way on the long lines of the 8 part squares.
  4. Stitch one row of green on the triangles. Starting points are just inside the squares just stitched.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for three rows. Finish with one row of red (single strand in needle) on both squares and triangles.
  6. Stitch large squares just outside the 8-part squares of the C8. Do 2 rows red (thread doubled) and one row yellow (single thread). Interlock these squares in the center of the triangles. Note: This interlocking is not shown on the small diagram, click to go to an enlarged diagram that shows it.

Notes

This was stitched as part of an exploration of converting designs between divisions on the Temari Challenge Yahoo group. Thanks to Joan for doing the instructional part on this one. It is the beginning of a series that will entail C8 to C10 to 32 to 42. I varied the design a bit from the original in the book because I chose the colors randomly from my stash (Color Melee!) and they just didn't seem to work for the stripes of the original design.
