Debi's Temari Notebook

This section of the TemariMath site is for my personal temari notebook. The pages are the notes and diagrams I record for each temari I make. This is not just a gallery of my best work; it is all of the temari I make. This includes my mistakes, experiments, mathematical explorations and some nice pretty ones too. Sometimes I get lucky and the experiments are the pretty ones, but not always. All of the designs have basic information about the source, size, threads used and my notes about making them. For some there are also diagrams and detailed instructions.

Organization

The files are organized by yearly indexes accessed from the navigation menu with the five most recent temari shown on this page as well. I started keeping my notebook seriously in 2005 so that is the earliest year available.

Numbering and Naming

I do not give names to the temari I make since I do not know what the traditional names might be for various patterns and I don't want to just make things up. I might have a nickname for one once in awhile, but usually I use numbers. The numbers are date based; the first two digits are for the year, the next two digits are for the month and the last two digits are the number of the temari in the month. So, temari 060305 is the fifth temari I made in March of 2006. It is best to refer back to the temari by number rather than location on the page, since the number of temari in a row will change depending on an individual's browser settings.

Using the files

The thumbnail pictures on the index pages link to the notebook files. From the individual notebook page you can click on the finished views or the diagrams to go to an enlarged view. The notebook pages include only the brief instructions needed to duplicate the pattern which may not be detailed enough for beginners. In the cases where I have written up more detailed instructions, there will be a link to those instructions from the notebook page. Occasionally there are links within the text to relevent pages elsewhere on this site (such as a pattern investigation or math study) or on the web (such as a specific thread vendor or pattern source).
