JTA Level 3 (Shihan) Certification Entries

These are links to the notebook pages for the temari I submitted to the Japanese Temari Association for level 3 certification. I've included a few comments about the process as well. Click on the thumbnail to go to the individual notebook pages with diagrams and details about the temari. Note that the next and previous buttons on the individual notebook pages refer to the notebook in general and not to the JTA submissions shown here.

What is JTA certification?

JTA stands for the Japanese Temari Association. They offer certification at four levels of temari skills. Previously I have completed levels 1 and 2 (Beginner and Intermediate). Level 3 is the Shihan or Teacher level. This level has much more strict requirements. You must submit 8 original designs showing a variety of skills. Written instructions must be provided for all of them with diagrams and actual temari (rather than just photos) being supplied for three of the eight.

I learned a tremendous amount while working on this project. I was privileged to work with several others who were also working on their Level 3 certification at the same time. The interactions and support from the group were invaluable in making this a positive experience and in pushing me to do the absolute best work I am capable of.
