devoted to the study of temari and mathematics
Check this page for site updates. I try to update at least once a month with a minimum of the current notebook entries. Investigations and math studies take awhile to complete so they will be less frequent. There is also an RSS feed for temarimath. RSS is an automated way to check on headlines via an RSS agregator or reader. Some browsers (Safari for Mac, IE 7, Opera) have built in readers, otherwise you have to use a program or a specific webpage like MyYahoo. If you would like more information about RSS try the Yahoo RSS information page. It is focused on the MyYahoo homepage service they offer but it gives good solid information about what RSS is and more or less how it works. If you like the RSS idea but want a different program to read it then do an online search for RSS reader.
Here's the May/early June notebook update. Right now you'll find four new designs since the last update statement here. #090501 is a swirl design on a C8 based multi. #090502 is a little negative space experiment I did on a small C10. #090601 is a kiku sampler on a C8. #090602 is another kiku ball exploring one of the ideas that I abandoned for the sampler. There is more detail about the kiku designs in my blog under the tag kiku.
This is the monthly notebook update. April was a slow month and there is only one new design in the notebook: #090401. This is an original design I did that is loosely based on the structure of the rhinovirus. It required a fair bit of ripping out and restitching, hence only one temari in April. Hopefully I'll have more to show in May. Remember, if you want to see my new designs as I add them into the notebook you can follow my blog. The direct link to the rss feed for the blog is http://temarimath.info/temaritrain/?feed=rss2
If you have not been following my blog then you may have missed the three most recent temari in my notebook: #090302, #090303, and #090304. When I add a new one to the notebook I update the 'Latest Temari' section in the left sidebar of my blog with the picture and a link to the notebook page. Usually that coincides with a new blog post that may or may not be about the temari.
I will not be doing very many notebook updates in this rss feed anymore since it is so much easier to do them via the blog. I'll still continue to do more or less monthly updates for awhile. Eventually, when I am done redesigining the temarimath website, all of the updates will be done via blog posts. The rss feed for the temari train blog is here.
My notebook is finally up to date! I have added four more temari since the last update. Have a look: #090201, #090202, #090203 and #090301. Now that I am all caught up, I will be posting pictures of the new ones in the sidebar of my blog with a link to the notebook page. Hopefully I won't get so far behind again.
Once again, two more added to the notebook. These are two variations of the same design I was creating. There were actually several variations in between but I did alot of ripping out and did not photograph all of them. Check them out at #090103 and #090104. I did not quite meet my goal of having the notebook updated by March 1st. I still have two more old ones to go and then I will be totally up to date. Look for those this coming week.
Two more in the notebook. I am finally posting 2009 temari! You'll find lots of flowers on (#090101) and a nice beginners design, (#090102). Only four more to go and I will be caught up. I wonder if I can make it before I finish the temari I am working on?
Three more new notebook entries! There's another star polygon temari (#081101), a temari inspired by sea angels (#081201), and an HHG experiment (#081202). Check them out.
There are three more new entries in the notebook: #081003, #081004, and #081005. Also, check out the horizontal menubar; I've added a link to the new Temari Train... blog. It should show up on all of the pages of the site.
Speaking of Temari Train... there are two new entries since the last time I posted here in the What's New. If you want to follow the RSS for the blog, there's a button for it in the upper right of the blog window. Normally I will not announce blog updates here.
New stuff! I am sorry it has been so long since I updated the site. Today I added a blog to the site. It's called Temari Train.... For now it has not been added to the links and menus for the rest of the temarimath site but I will be working on that in the next week. Please stop by and feel free to leave a comment.
I am woefully behind on updating the notebook section of the site. Rather than post a whole bunch of new ones in one fell swoop I decided to add them two at a time. So today I added #081001 and #081002. I actually have 11 more to go after those two. I'll be working on adding them throughout the end of this month and hopefully start March with everything up to date.
I have just added a new pattern investigation, Looking for New Designs. Rather than being focused on a particular design element or pattern, it is focused on one idea you can use to create your own designs. In that respect it is really more targeted to those who are just getting started with going beyond published designs. If you are someone who already does that, this may not be a new idea to you.
I am sorry that I have not updated the site in awhile. Unfortunately, it will be a bit longer before I can do further updates. I am making new temari but I cannot publish them to the notebook just yet, so please be patient with me and check back later. When I do put the temari up there should be a good number of them to share. I do have a new pattern investigation in mind and possibly a related math study so I promise there is something coming, it just may not be for a few months. Happy stitching in the meantime.
In non-temari news, I noticed that my current email program will subscribe to RSS feeds for me so that I can get automatic updates to the sites that I like to go to. If your email program has that capability then you can get these what's new listings automatically by subscribing in your program. Usually that is just a matter of giving the URL to the feed. This is the link to the temarimath.info rss feed.
An entire month has gone by and all I have to show for it is one new temari in the notebook. (Well there are other things, just not temari.) I just added #080801 to the notebook. It is one of my own designs. I think it is funny how in some years I do a ton of temari in August (10 in 2005!) and this year I could only manage one, and that was finished right on the last day of the month.
There are two new temari added to the notebook, #080701, and #080702. The second one is a multipole from the new Japanese book Azuma Temari. I love this book!
An online friend of mine, Joan Z, did an alternate design using the techniques from #080303 in my notebook. She graciously allowed me to post a pic of it on the notebook page. Follow the link above to the notebook page and scroll to the bottom of the page in the notes section. It is a beautiful design. You can find more of Joan's work in her webshots album.
The newest temari in the notebook (#080601) is a sunflower rose garden sampler. I've added the relevant pictures from it to the rose garden pattern investigation as well.
I've added a new pattern investigation on the rose garden stitching technique. It does not have the full complement of examples yet but hopefully I will be adding to it over the course of the summer.
I recently discovered that the RSS feed was not quite functioning properly. So I went a did a bit of homework and fixed some errors in my coding. It should update correctly now and the 'read more' link should go directly to the relevant website pages. Additionaly, I noticed that the What's New page was getting a bit long so I relocated the old entries (2007 and earlier) to an archive location.
I know it has been a busy time at my house when all I can manage to do is make one temari in two months! You'll find it in the notebook, #080501.
There are five new temari in my notebook today. Three of them are ones that I made in 2007 for my friend Barb who was writing an article for Creative Needle Magazine. Two of the three were published with her article in the March/April Issue. You can find all three on the 2007 index page or by following these individual links: #070802, #070803 and #070804. The other two new ones are a result of playing around with 'the string game' that Barb shared with us at the SW Stitch In. Since they are the two most recent, you can access them from the main notebook index or from the 2008 index page.
I just added five new temari to the notebook. They include some that I worked on for activities at the February SW Stitch In as well as a special experiment with some fibers that Kathy shared at the Stitch In. You can access them from the main notebook index or from the 2008 index page.
I am adding a whole new section to the site called Fun and Games. You can access it on the navigation list to the right of the page or from the site map page. The Fun and Games page will link to temari based activities that can be used just for fun. Currently you'll find instructions and a card generator for Temari Bingo, directions for a small 'getting to know you' game, instructions for the Color Challenge Melee (you gotta try this one!) and a very silly bonus game. Enjoy!
In the 'better late than never' category I have finally posted the Hexagon Study also know as When is a Hexagon Not a Hexagon? It is one that I started a long time ago about regular hexagons and other shapes on the sphere but never quite got around to finishing. You can get to it directly using the links above, from the math studies main page (menu at right) or the site map page (link above).
Well I finally finished the temari that I started in late November, #080101. It is based on a C8 multipole marking. And since it is a brand new year, the new design goes on the new 2008 index page in the notebook.
